Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. 2 November 2014 – Ming Garden Hotel & Residences, a two year old city hotel in Sabah emerged as overall champion of the 17th Sabah Hospitality Fiesta 2014.
The prestigious event organized by Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH Labuan & Sabah Chapter) & Asian Tourism International College (ATIC) was held from 1st to 2nd November 2014 at Suria Sabah Mall and Karamunsing Complex respectively.
The hotel bagged a total of 6 Gold medals, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze, and 4 Diploma certificates out of the 11 categories competed. The first two Gold medals was awarded to top scorer Mohd Syaifuddin Kasan and Earmeywati @ Rebella Octavia Jouni in the “Professional Bed Making Individual Challenge” category; Kopi Tarik Queen Mony Asob scored the highest points while brewing it blindfolded and bagged the hotel’s third Gold medal in the “Nescafe Tarik Professional Challenge”. Chef Andreas Martinus contributed Gold as well in “Individual Fruit & Vegetable Carving Individual Challenge” while Chef Fernando Freddy Stephen and Azni Bin Abdul Gain both contributed two more to the hotel’s Gold medal collection for “Blackbox : Chinese Modern Cuisine Individual Challenge” and “Blackbox : Commis – Demi Individual Challenge” respectively. Proud Silver medalists Chef Idris Bin Hijau & Ahmad Faidzal Bin Saharan excelled in “Display Patisserie – Decorated Wedding Cake Group Category” while Mohd Shaifudin Bin Shamsudin was awarded the Bronze medal for “Display Patisserie – Pastry Showpiece Individual Challenge”.
Diploma certificates were awarded to Hazid Bin Jhon Mustapha in “Table Setting Individual Challenge”, Chef Alexander Ungkin – Blackbox – CDP Sous Individual Challenge”, Terrance Joil Stephen for “Display Plated Food – Seafood Platter Challenge”, and Jerrold Donovan Dominic for “Display Plated Food – Meat Platter Challenge”.
Compared to last year, the hotel as a first time participant only managed to bring back 3 medals and 3 diploma certificates. General Manager, Mina Wong personally congratulated all winners, saying that despite joining the Sabah Hospitality competition for the second time, she is proud and honored to have staffs that are dedicated in providing the best in service and hospitality. “Our team has made all of us extremely proud, we promised ourselves that we would do better this year, but never expected as champions!” says Wong.
