Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. 28 February 2015 – Ming Garden Hotel & Residences welcomes the Lunar New Year with grand performances of 10 ferocious lions from Nam Tien Kong Dance Troupe of Kota Kinabalu. The second day of Chinese New Year was filled with roaring sounds of the drums, gongs and cymbals as the colorful lions greeted guests with a routine line dance at the main entrance of the hotel. Deputy General Manager, Tommy Lai led the opening ceremony saying the lion dance was organized as a special treat for their guests.
The lion troupe danced its way to the Golden Dew Bistro, Rosewood Lounge, Rainforest Atrium and Sparks Fun Pub before visiting the hotel’s management offices and Ming Grand Ballroom to perform blessings of good luck. A solo performance at the main hotel lobby features a Gold lion bestowing a propitious centerpiece of a Pomelo and 5 mandarin oranges that symbolizes the 5 element which is also the hotel’s main management company 5 Elemnt, in Hong Kong. The peeled centerpiece was then presented to Tommy Lai and head of departments for good fortune and prosperity.
The excitement was fired up as their main lion performed at the outdoor entrance of the hotel, showing off creative skills and acrobatic moves on top of 10 feet tall steel poles. The vigorous performance ended with the presentation of the “Lucky Scroll” to Deputy General Manager, Tommy Lai. In-house guests, locals, and visitors alike took the opportunity to take photographs with the lions. The management and staff of the hotel also thanked the lion dance troupe with a group picture and presentation of “Ang Pow”. “As Malaysians, despite our differences, we celebrate every festivity as our own and promote togetherness thoroughly; we boast the vibrancy of Malaysian culture to the foreigners and while they’re here, invite them to celebrate with us as well”, said Shauntay Dawn Chong, Marcom Manager of the hotel.
